At first, I wondered why Matthew listed him in the genealogy of Christ. Yet, it didn't take long to discover the answer once you render his name.

The Hebrew language translates the name JESSE as "gift." Isaiah's prophecy predicts him as such. He is simply an enormous gift waiting to be unwrapped and opened! The prophet foretold that the "stem of Jesse" symbolizes the gift from the family of David (Isaiah 11:1), and the "root of Jesse" as the Messiah (Isaiah 11:10; Revelation 5:5).

It is striking how the Bible likens both Jesse and David as men of foretold prophecy, progeny, and profound purpose. Both individuals share an exuberant heart toward God while extending immense compassion to His people (Isaiah 40:11)

Jesse was the son of Obed, and grandson of Boaz and Ruth (Ruth 4:13-22). He is an "old man" when we first meet with him, (1 Samuel 17:12) with eight sons, (1 Samuel 16:10; 17:12) residing at Bethlehem. (1 Samuel 16:4,5) He was considered a man of wealth consisting of a flock of sheep and goats, all under the direct care of his youngest son, David.

Jesse is known throughout Judaism primarily because of his youngest son, David who became King of Israel. In Christianity, Jesse is a key ancestor of Jesus Christ our Messiah and King. Yet, Matthew doesn't stop with removing the bow and ribbon of history. He challenges each reader to unwrap more.

Have you ever heard the expression "Like Father Like Son?" This idiom is used when different generations of a family behave in the same way or have the same talents of defects. It refers to a son imitating his father. Wait just a moment! Are we talking about more than Jesse and David here? Is this another Old Testament citing and unveiling of how the New Testament is revealed?

David was a blueprint and carbon copy of his dad and so was the Messiah. Not only do we find prophecies predicting each of their births - we find each sharing insurmountable love for their family and brethren. Both become rulers seated upon a throne sharing a unique dynasty.

Earlier, we mentioned how this idiom refers to a "son imitating his father." Again, there are remarkable similarities betwixt the two! So, let's keep unwrapping until we reach the "gift."

Jesse appears to us as an "old man" while God the Father is pronounced as "Ancient of Days" (Daniel 7:12) Each ancestry is found in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2; Matthew 2:1-6). Jesse is considered a man of wealth consisting of a flock of sheep and goats, all under the direct care of his youngest son, David. Yet, God the Father shared in His wealth sending His Son, Jesus to take direct care of His fold also. His SON gave His life to both sheep (Jews) and goats (Gentiles.) Both achieve God's purpose and fulfill His covenant.

Matthew shares an exquisite 'gift" introducing Jesse and David into the genealogy of Jesus Christ. He reveals how Jesse is that sturdy branch and stem connecting the family tree to the Messiah.

While blogging, I am reminded of a favorite family portrait of my brother and his first born son, Chase. Troy is just a toddler at the time when the picture was taken. The portrait captures him climbing over the porcelain tub in order to take his bath. A generation later, I found a very similar photograph of Chase around the same age capturing the exact pose. Both boys are smiling, climbing and ready to splish splash while taking their bath. You can hardly tell them apart because they look so alike. The portrait is framed with a plaque underneath - "Like Father Like Son."

Matthew is doing the same here in his writings. He takes an Old Testament portrait of Jesse and David. He begins revealing New Testament similarities generations later. He frames in and captures the particular moment in history so when viewed it reads "Like Father Like Son" yesterday, today and forever. That is not only Matthew capturing history...it is HIS STORY in the making.

Traci M. Yet, there are “so many” discoveries and truths to be found. Obed is introduced at the end of a story in a very famous scroll and book. His mother is a Gentile and his father a Jew. His account is told from one of life’s greatest love stories ever shared and displayed in an allegory of Hebrew and Christian writings.

Obed is a creation of God bringing two people together with two diverse faiths, ages, backgrounds, lives, customs, cultures, and lands to serve one complete purpose. United as one (since Ruth’s conversion), their lives intertwine and serve a unique purpose - to preserve the dynasty of David.

Obed’s birth is a unique part of God’s enormous plan. He is a vital instrument created and designed to expand the family name and heritage. He is a part of an irrefutable and indescribable legacy. Can you imagine his bragging rights? Obed speaks, “Yes, I am the grandfather of King David! My grandson likes to wrestle. He even killed a bear and lion with his own bare hands! He used a sling and five stones to bring down a notorious Philistine giant. Then, he took a sword and chopped off his head!” Those were only the stories of his grandson’s youth.

Matthew takes us back and recounts the good ole’ days. He details David’s descent from Ruth the Moabite unto her firstborn son Obed. He initiates thought and prods mankind to ask the famous question: “Who was Obed?” Perhaps, he asked himself the same question. It certainly urges me to ask, “Who am I?” Besides, “WHO ARE YOU?”

Matthew is very creative in listing the genealogy. He engages the reader to stop and reflect upon history or again, HIS STORY. He connects truths and generations. Yes, truths that describes love, fate, a birth and the choosing of a baby boy’s name signifying Obed as a “servant of God; worshipper, and follower.”

Obed produced a royal bloodline and bequeathed to Israel a royal family. He was grandfather to a King and great grandfather to another (Solomon). He shares in an eternal dynasty and kingdom. He is an ancestor of Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus Christ).

Traci M. You will find a man who is nothing but carnal and walking in the flesh.” He added, “However, if you raise a man up in the nurture and strength of the LORD - then that is exactly what you’ll get! You will find a man who is strong and walking in the power and might of the LORD.”

This is exactly the man whom Matthew introduces. His name is Boaz and his Hebrew name even describes him as such - “strength.” Boaz’s character depicts a man who was financially secure, mentally and emotionally stable, physically apt, socially and economically sound. Yet, it was his spiritual walk with God that left behind an inheritance and legacy for all generations.

Boaz was a wealthy landowner in Bethlehem. He was related to Elimelech, husband of Naomi. After the death of Elimelech and his two sons in Moab, Naomi returned with her Moabite daughter-in-law to Bethlehem. Yet, Matthew reminds us that the seeds of salvation can often be planted in a conservatory of tragedy or disaster.

Ruth met Boaz in his field while exercising the right of the poor to gather the grain which falls during the harvest and season of counting the Omer. He acted compassionately toward Ruth and directed his servants to see that she took home barley beyond the amount of her legal entitlement. It was through the guiding hand of Divine Providence that led him there in order to meet Ruth.

When Ruth's brother-in-law refused to marry her (as required by law of Levirate marriage), Boaz implemented the heavenly plan to build the house of Israel by agreeing both to purchase the former estate of Elimelech and to redeem Ruth in marriage so that the newly acquired field would remain in Elimelech's family and the lineage continue. Boaz ultimately fathered the Davidic dynasty through a son named Obed.

Matthew reveals Boaz as a type of Christ the Messiah, springing from Judah, in order to acquire a bride from among the Gentile nations. He reminds us that Boaz stepped in with grace and not obligation while redeeming Ruth from her situation. He shows how Yeshua is willing to redeem (similar to Boaz redeeming and marrying Ruth) with the power to do so, as well as, the right as our KINSMAN REDEEMER too.

Matthew repeatedly teaches that the Old Testament concealed is the New Testament revealed while the New Testament revealed is a picture of the Old Testament concealed. He paints a beautiful portrait and illustration of Boaz and the Messiah as the kinsman, men of great wealth, the Lord of the harvest, a provider of bread, supplier of needs, restorer of hope, men of willingness, grace, and compassion, intercessors, Go’el or redeemer, our great inheritance and both having lineage belonging and fulfilling the Davidic dynasty.

Traci M. I had been studying Hebrew that morning at Gan Shmuel Kibbutz located in the Hafia district of Israel, east of Hadera. We began reciting the alphabet and working on pronunciations of names in order to provide me with an understanding of the language and complete my homework assignment.

Gaby opened up a parashah or a passage in Bereshit which ended up being Genesis 5. It was most appropriate that she took me to the book of Genesis because the very word Bereshit simply means “in the beginning” or “at the start” or “at the head of (all things)." Frankly, this was where I was…”the beginning” of many Hebrew lessons.

As we continued studying, I remembered one of the most important lessons came from the first Hebrew letter “b” or “Bet” from the word Bereshit. The letter Bet means “house.” Interestingly enough this particular word is composed of three Vavs, which adds up to 18, the numerical value for chai, or life. That is what He taught me that particular day while sitting in the house…God is life.

My friend, I was receiving more than a school lesson that afternoon. God was teaching me a spiritual lesson. Here, I sat at the feet of my Jewish mother at home being taught something divine or should I say rather being educated about someone Divine?

Suddenly, she took the Yad and began pointing me to these words, “This is the written account of Adam's line.” (A yad is often shaped like a long rod, with a small hand and an index finger pointing from it. It is used to point to the text while reading a portion of the Torah. It can be made of any number of materials, though silver is most common. The key is that “it points” us to truth.)

Well, I was lost in pronunciations and couldn’t for the life of me understand why all these names and records mattered. That’s when Gaby pointed to the book of Exodus of Parashat Shemot and we began reading about Moses’ genealogy.

Now, this is very significant as well – both in Hebrew and in my education. Shemot simply means “names.” Yet all these names conglomerate into a story in which God delivers Israel out of Egypt or Mitzarim into a land of promise. Basically, He was transitioning the people from something “OLD” to something “NEW” thus freeing them from their bondage so they could live in a place of freedom. He was doing the same in me, too!

As we continued to trace the names and patterns a story began to unfold, as well as a lineage. The Hebrew names had precious meaning. It was as though Gaby had handed me cliff notes to the Bible, life and a look into HISTORY (past, present and future).

It was an incredible time of learning as Gaby sat down at the table with me writing the names out in both English and Hebrew. What seemed so difficult at first resulted in complete joy.

Matthew is doing the same thing here that my Jewish mom did there. He is introducing men and women to five new characters whose names have incredible meaning – past, present and future. He is teaching the reader that there is an amazing story yet to be told that will POINT us straight to the Messiah! (He is very similar to the Yad.)

Matthew transitions readers from the Old Testament to the NEW expounding upon a genealogy that will lead precisely to the ONE who liberated, liberates and is liberating us from bondage so that we too can live in a place of freedom! You see, often it is easy to get lost or caught up in all the semantics. When we can’t for the life of one another understand the meaning to our uncertainties or life events – that’s when we learn that God has a unique purpose and plan in it all. He is pointing us somewhere…to the Messiah.

So let’s go back and trace where we have been in chapter one of Matthew. We will do exactly what Gaby taught me to do that day. I think that you will be enlightened and intrigued! It will escort us right to the Messiah and Messianic story.

Jesus – Yeshua is the Hebrew name for Jesus which means “Salvation.”

Christ - Ha-Mashiach is the Hebrew name for the Messiah literally meaning “the anointed.”

David - 'beloved' or possibly 'chieftain'

Abraham – “Father or leader of many”

Isaac – “He will laugh”

Jacob – “He who supplants”

Judah – “The praised one” or “exalt”

Perez – “Breach, Breaker or Breakthrough”

Zerah – “dawning”

Tamar – “palm tree”

Hezron – “Enclosed”

Ram – “High or Exalted”

Amminadab – “My people are noble”

Nahson – “that foretells; that conjectures”

Salmon – “Peaceable, Perfect and He that rewards”

I've often thought about WHY Matthew included so many names. There are many biblical examples when a “good name” referred to a person’s reputation, his character or integrity - such as Moses. Their names defined who they were, what they were like as an individual or often what they had accomplished and done.

In Jewish history, the Israelites required signs in order to believe. Some of these signs were observed and seen in the people’s names. Often times these signs were limited to certain time frames when God was introducing something to human history. This didn’t happen on a constant basis. Instead, they were messages sent to the people in order to believe God’s message or person. Matthew is penning these genealogical names in order to point “us” or rather introduce someone or something to human history – the long awaited Messiah.

Again, there is little written about Hezron, Ram, Amminadab, Nahson and Salmon. Yet, as we dig deeper much can be recorded and observed about their lives throughout the meaning of their names. Here’s the portrait Matthew is painting:

Jesus our Salvation - Anointed as the Beloved - Our Chieftain - Father and Leader of many – Our laughter - He who supplants (succeeds) - The Praised One – Exalted – The One who breaches going before us breaking through – One dawned with branches from a palm tree - Enclosed to man, High and Exalted – A Messiah to a people that are Noble or chosen (Israel) – A Messiah that foretells; that conjecture – Peace, Perfection and especially One that REWARDS!

Now if that isn't God introducing something to human history...I am not sure what is! He is still speaking to HIS people and the message is Jesus the Messiah!!!

Traci M. One refers to a place and the other a person. Matthew describes Judah as the person who was bequeathing the ancestral line of the Messiah.

Judah was a son of Jacob and Leah. His Hebrew name means “to praise.” His brothers were among those who made up the twelve tribes and nation of Israel. Serving as a means or agency to the saving of his brother Joseph, whom his other eleven brothers wanted to murder, Judah redeemed himself. His redemption brought about praise - praise for risking his life for Benjamin (his youngest brother) and praise for moving the heart of Joseph to reveal his true identity and re-uniting the family.

As HIS STORY (history) continues, Judah wasn’t always a man who was found to be praiseworthy. Matthew begins recalling that part of the ancestry too. From this part of history comes a greater account in which we are “to praise.” It is seen in the names of his twin son’s Perez and Zerah (along with their birth mother, Tamar). This account is found in Genesis 38 of the Bible.

As we read, we find that Judah has a misguided relationship with Tamar. Out of this relationship is foretold the most redemptive story of all. Matthew narrates this particular part of the story in order to define the ancestry, ministry and life of Christ, our Messiah.

Here, I would like to take a special Excerpt from Torah Club Volume Two: Shadows of the Messiah). It is very fascinating and especially noteworthy.

According to the Midrash Rabbah, when Tamar’s pregnancy advanced to the point where the twins were showing, she “would tap upon her stomach and exclaim, ‘I am big with kings and redeemers.’” (Genesis Rabbah 85:10) What an incredible insight to the Messiah – pointing to the fact that the He is both our KING and REDEEMER!

As one reads the account found in Genesis, it provides us with the story of their birth. While Tamar was in labor, the first of her two sons extended his hand. At first, the midwife ties a scarlet thread around the firstborn’s wrist in order to identify the son as the firstborn child. Suddenly, the baby pulls back his hand moving back down into the birth canal. Tamar names him Perez, which literally means “breach.” (Apparently, this is similar to a baby born today in a “breech position.”)

The birth of the twins is understood and associated directly with the Messiah. It foreshadows His first and second coming. Perez’ name additionally means “breaker” in Hebrew. In the Midrash Rabbah, Tamar names him Perez to indicate that King Messiah, “the Breaker,” would one day come forth from him:

Tamar actually meant, “This one is greater than all those who make breaches, for from you will arise [the King Messiah of whom it is written in Micah 2:13], ‘The breaker (poretz, פורץ) goes up before them; [They break out, pass through the gate and go out by it. So their king goes on before them, and the LORD at their head.]‘” (Genesis Rabbah 85:14)

Yet, what does Zerah mean? How does Matthew describe his role in the ancestry of Christ? It’s very intersting to say the least! In Hebrew, Zerah literally means “dawning.” Basically, Matthew is stating that he’s the second dawning of the Messiah’s ancestry, ministry, and life. Zerah is the picture of The Redemptive Messianic Age as propheised by Isaiah, Micah and Malachi in their pinnacle peaks of prophecy.

Matthew is showing us that Tamar, along with the midwife, had great hopes and anticipation. Initially, Zerah was actually suppose to be the son who was born first. Yet, Perez burst forth “breaking” ahead of him.

The generation in Matthew’s day greatly antcipated seeing the messianic redemption. When Christ arrived the people witnessed a sign of the coming redemption. However, before the redemption was fulfilled the Messiah had to accomplish the mountain peak of prophecy as described by the prophet Isaiah.

Finally, when Perez defied Tamar’s expectation by bursting forth ahead of Zerah, she cried out, “So this is how you have broken out!” (Genesis 38:29 NIV) My goodness, the similarities and unforeseen prophecy to be told! During the Messiah’s first coming, He defied those same expectations, hopes and even anticipations. As Christ burst forth from the grave, I can only imagine Matthew saying, “So, this is how you have broken out…as our Redeemer and King!” That is why we are “to praise!”

Traci M. Jacob must have been intriguing for Matthew. Perhaps, he could personally relate or identify with HIS STORY or history. Here was an Old Testament man that wrestled with men and with God. Yet, the story informs us that Jacob was one who overcomes. He was a man changed by his encounter and experience with God which became a testimony and witness to those around him. Jacob left behind a godly legacy for his people and generation.

My friend, if you haven't read Jacob's story of wrestling with God - you should! It is fascinating and found in the book of Genesis chapter 32:22-32. There are a lot of types, symbols and foreshadows throughout his life. Yet, especially in this narrative! Here is a basic recap:

Jacob was left alone. He wrestles with God until daybreak. God touches a tender spot in Jacob (his thigh). That tender spot is wrenched and torn out of socket. Yet, Jacob continues to wrestle with the Lord. He is confronted. He is asked his name. Once, he realizes "who he is" vs. "who he is not" his name is changed. Jacob doesn't leave this place or let go until He receives God's blessings. Afterwards, he creates a memorial. (After all, he has struggled with man and also with God only to overcome!) Henceforth, Jacob returns back to his family. Yet, his walk is much different and so is his name. Jacob is no longer a man "grabbing at the heel" of another, but rather ISRAEL or "he who turns the head of God."

That is Matthew in a nut-shell except Matthew is a New Testament man who wrestled with men and God as well. Remember, Levi was his Jewish name. Matthew became his Greek name which means "gift of Jehovah." Levi was a tax-collector for the Roman government. Tax collectors weren't liked any better THEN than they are NOW. Besides the fact that he was a tax-collector, he was a Jew working for the Romans to collect taxes from his own countrymen. This was doubly offensive to his people. You see, the Romans ruled Israel at this time and any Jew who was willing to work for the Romans was considered a traitor or a sinner (Mt. 9:11).

Now, talk about an identity crisis or going against the grain of custom or culture! Yet, Matthew experienced an encounter with the Messiah that changed his walk, identity and name as well. Jesus approached Matthew where he was at in life - right in the middle of collecting taxes. Yet, you have to love this part! The Bible says, "And as he passed by...He said to him, "Follow me." Matthew immediately got up and followed him. Henceforth, Levi or Matthew returns back to his family and people. Yet, his walk is much different and so is his name too. Matthew is no longer a man similar to Jacob "grabbing at the heel" of another to collect taxes, but rather a disciple who "turns the head of God" as well. Matthew leaves behind a godly legacy just like his predecessor!

Matthew is simply pointing us to the Messiah as he reminds of us of the genealogy of Christ. First, HE is seen in others; like Jacob. Second, He is seen in Matthew; himself. Matthew's life and experiences are similar to Jacob - in that both men have an encounter with God leaving behind a godly legacy and remarkable testimony. Both become great witnesses for the LORD.

We can use HIS STORY and history to do the same! How? Has there ever been an instance in your life when you have been left completely alone with God? A time between just the two of you? A moment when you have wrestled with Him until daybreak? Has there ever been an occasion when He touched a tender spot in your life? You know, that tender spot that was wrenched and torn out of socket? A point of time where you continued wrestling with the Lord over a delicate matter or situation? An era where you were confronted? An occurrence when God asked personal questions? Has there come a second when you realized "who you are " vs. "who you are not?" Has there ever been an instance in your life where God personally changed your identity or your life?

Your answer is either "yes" or simply "no." If yes, I am sure you have a memorial place too - just like Jacob and Matthew. This is the place where we met God encountering HIM personally and individually. If not, perhaps this may be the moment when "Jesus is passing by." He is saying to you, "Follow me." Will you? Because there is something special that takes place when the Messiah passes by and speaks individually to you!

My friend, we can be like Jacob and Matthew too - over comers and disciples of the one true God! We can share the Messiah with our family, people and generation. Our walk is and should continue to be just as different as their walk. Plus, according to God's Word - we have been given a new name as well! (Rev. 3:12) Neither men were no longer men "grabbing at the heel" of another, but rather men who "he turns the head of God." That is what following the Messiah does...HE turns OUR head and face toward the head and face of God.

In closing, here is what I discovered and realized. At first glance, Matthew was writing about the past as seen in Jacob. Then, I suddenly realized "no"...actually he is presently writing about himself. Yet, as I began to develop and process the Word - I realize that he is writing about the future and that is me. It is also YOU!

Now, as Stephen says to me, "Traci, if that doesn't stir your soul...your spoon fell out of your bowl!" No wonder I almost fell out of my chair today when I read Psalm 14:7 (MSG) "Is there anyone around to save Israel? Yes. God is around; God turns life around. Turned-around Jacob skips rope, turned-around Israel sings laughter. The promise has been declared. The seed is conceived. Isaac is born. He is offered as a sacrifice. He is given a BRIDE. Later, Isaac walks in the role, nature and authority of his father. In all of this, Matthew is simply painting an Old Testament portrait of the New Testament Messiah. He is foretelling and foreshadowing Isaac as a type of Christ.

Yet, for me to understand some of the significance the Holy Spirit had me to zero in on Abraham sending his servant out to go find a bride for Isaac. The narrative begins in Genesis chapter 24.

As a father, Abraham knew that it was vital for Isaac to walk where God had ordained and established his path. It was so imperative that he sent a servant ahead to prepare his way. Because he walked in this chosen path Isaac simply trod where his father had already proceeded! It fits the expression; like father - like son. That is how Matthew wants us to see the Messiah; like FATHER - like SON.

You see, I discovered that there was a personal and intimate relationship that took place between the Father and Son. This relationship was so central to the father that it was mutual between the Master and his servant. There was a responsibility that was shared between the two. A covenant made. The Master (Abraham) provided specific direction to the servant. Yet, the servant was wholly committed to the Master. Everything the servant did was out of relationship to the Master. As a result, the servant was placed in charge of everything. That is just what I found throughout the book of Matthew written about Christ.

As I continued to read, I discovered the ultimate gift of man's free will as the servant began to reason and rationalize with the Father regarding the willingness of the bride. Remember, not just any bride would do. So, the servant asked questions such as "What if" or "Shall I?" Therefore, the Master provided reassurance to his servant. First, it is seen in his request. Second, it is observed in his responsibilities. Yet, I was completely astonished how the Master released the servant if she was unwilling to take part as Isaac's bride. It is depicted in the wooing and pursuit of the bride.

An oath was bound. The servant walks in complete agreement in response to the Master's request. He sets out on his earthly way in pursuit of the Master's divine plan. The servant receives a revelation. His prayer was answered specifically and also instantaneously. Yet, the servant regards closely to discern if God's will was done. He doesn't assume anything. Instead, he tests it to see if indeed he was successful and in the midst of the Master's will. By this, he grew confident in his master, in his mission and in himself. Yet, the servant pointed all things to his Master.

Afterwards, the servant paid great reverence. He gained results. He was received and welcomed. He was refreshed. He was remembered. His testimony became knowledge to all. Matthew wants us to see that this entire story is a type and foreshadowing of Christ.

You see, I also discovered in this passage that the servant was rewarded. First, he was rewarded for his faithfulness and commitment. Second, he was rewarded for his prayer. Third, he was rewarded for his willingness. He even experienced a unique return and was given a great reception. He recognized that his responsibility and task was completely fulfilled. He honored his Master. He later partook in a Wedding Celebration. Oh, the irony!

My friend, this is not simply a chronicle shared between Abraham and Isaac here. Matthew wants us to observe how this has become a part of the Messiah's story written for our behalf. Christ became that servant portrayed and fulfilled in the Old Testament. He had a relationship and bond shared between the Father that is very intimate and personal. Their responsibility was mutual. Christ depicts the servant's relationship to the Master. Everything Jesus did was out of relationship for His FATHER.

You see, our Father in His foreknowledge understood how vital it was for the Messiah to walk where He ordained and established. It was so imperative that God sent a forerunner ahead to prepare His way. That forerunner was John the Baptist. Christ trod the path of His Father's footsteps. He was and is; like FATHER-like SON.

Jesus had a personal and intimate relationship with the Father. This relationship was so central to the Father that a covenant was established and made. God gave the Messiah specific direction. Christ was wholly committed to the Master. As a result, Christ was placed in charge of everything in heaven and here on earth.

What's so amazing to me in this story is how we are given a free will to choose if we want to be a part of that relationship with the Father and Son. The Holy Spirit is wooing and in hot pursuit of us too. However, we must be willing. After all, it is "whosoever will come...come."

Christ came as the servant. He fulfilled His Father's request. He set out on His earthly way in pursuit of the Master's divine plan. He was humanly tested. Yet, Christ achieved God's will. God's will was made complete in the Messiah.

Christ gave great reverence. He achieved divine results. He was also received back unto the Father's presence with an angelic welcome. The real question is...are you are part of the bride and planning to partake in the WEDDING CELEBRATION? We've definitely been given an invitation!

Finally, Christ is remembered. His testimony was herald throughout his family, community and this earth. Matthew is simply pointing the Jewish people to Him through the life of Isaac so that Christ is unveiled, revealed and HE becomes knowledge to all.

My friend, I am amazed and in awe of Christ our Messiah!

Traci M. This week, I began reading in the book of Genesis and many of the Psalms. I began to observe a recurring idea throughout the story and life of Abraham and David.

The recurrent topic is worship. It was who, what, when, where and how Abram and David worshipped that altered a life-changing encounter and experience with God that changed each from being an ordinary man into becoming extraordinary men.

In Gensis, Abram sought the Lord. He spent time with Him. The scriptures teach that he rose early, built an altar, and called on the name of the Lord. His worship was special. His worship was sensible. His worship was significant. His worship was sustaining. His worship was satisfied. His worship was sincere.

It was his worship and time with God that led him to be an incredible man of God. Abram was a man who did inconceivable, impossible and adventuresome things with and through the Lord. Yet, he was still just a simple man and because that simple man counted on and believed the LORD, it was his deposit of faith that made him right with the LORD.

It was his faith that kept him moving in the journey. The voyage made with family, friends, neighbors, cities, communities and even kingdoms in order to fulfill the promise, the covenant and blessing bestowed upon him. After all, the next several generations would be glancing back upon history (HIS STORY) to see where His lineage originated and how these covenants would be fulfilled.

In Psalms, the same thing can be said about David. The Bible says in chapter 78:70-71 “He chose his servant David, calling him from the sheep pens. He took David from tending the ewes and lambs and made him the shepherd of Jacob’s descendants – God’s own people, Israel.” David was a man after God’s own heart.

Both Abram and David were faithful, human men. They loved God deeply. They honored Him. And? That is what God was after in each of them. Therefore, he also reciprocated that same love and honor upon man.

Matthew astonishes me with his writings. He begins verse one by focusing on the change in Abraham that took place through God. (Notice that he listed his name as Abraham and not Abram.) Although he is tracing the lineage back, Matthew was looking ahead at the work that was accomplished and made complete in Christ through these men’s lives.

Matthew was perceptive as a writer. He omprehended and understood the scripture and reminded the reader how the Old Testament concealed (Genesis 22:18 “and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”) is actually the New Testament revealed here in Matthew chapter one. These men were the sons of the “anointed” and “poured on” one.

No one understood this better than Matthew because we later read that Christ did the same work in Levi that he personally did in Abraham. He changed Him by pouring HIMSELF into Matthew. What an investment! Matthew became a new creature in Christ. All those old things about Levi passed away and behold all thing were made new in his life as Matthew. Here we have a small glimpse of that new beginning.

My friend, I realized that there must be that same recurring idea and theme throughout the story and life of Traci Alexander too after reading and studying this. The recurrent theme of my life MUST be worship. It is who, what, when, where and how I worship that can bring about a life-changing encounter and experience with God that changes me from being an ordinary woman to and extraordinary one.

My worship must be special, sensible, significant, sustaining, satisfying and most of all it must be sincere. We can each enjoy worship and time with God. It will develop us into incredible women of God so that we too can be women who do inconceivable, impossible and adventuresome things with and through the LORD.

Both Abram and David were faithful, human men. We can be that too! They loved God deeply. They honored Him. And? That is what God was after in each of them. I believe it is also what He desires and is after in each of us as well!

As Andrea has stated, “Christ is the Author and Finisher of our faith.” I relish in how she describes how He’s the bookends of our beginnings and endings. We should fit somewhere in the middle of who He is!

Traci M. He didn’t write about himself. In his entire Gospel he mentions his own name only two times. (Once when he records his call and the other is when he lists all 12 apostles.) He was humble, content to stay in the background and most likely very insignificant in his own eyes. He was more concerned with pointing people to the Messiah and telling the “Messiah’s story.”

Matthew begins revealing how the Old Testament is the New Testament concealed while the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed. Again, he wrote primarily for Jewish readers to show them that Jesus Christ was indeed their promised Messiah.

He initiates his writings and account with the very words “This is” and I just can’t seem to get over how brilliant those two words are. I find this interesting because according to scripture, the Jewish people required signs and miracles in order to believe or to obtain certain accreditation (Acts 2:22). Here, Matthew is calling attention to the present day. He will follow by expounding upon Israel’s past and history. Then, he will bring them forward in these next 17 verses to show how Christ will become their future and King.

As stated earlier in our previous blogs, Matthew is well-versed and educated in the Torah. In the book of Genesis the first account of the beginning is foretold as follow: Genesis 2:4 “This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created.” (NIV) Then, we read the same words again in Genesis 5:1 “This is the written account of the descendants of Adam. When God created human beings, he made them to be like himself.”(NLT) Genesis 11:27 “This is the account of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot.” (NIV)

It is a theme that follows throughout the entire Old Testament. Matthew continues expounding upon this theme as he pens chapter one of the Gospel. “This is” a record that proves that Jesus, who so perfectly and completely fulfilled all the Old Testament predictions, is indeed the Messiah, the Savior of the world, the Son of the living God. It presents proof of divine inspiration that is positive and conclusive.

In the Old Testament there is a definite, clear and continuous teaching that the Messiah will come. Matthew writes “This is” the account and record of that promised seed that ties the two Testaments together. He is teaching that all lines of Old Testament messianic prophecy meet in Jesus…the Christ or MESSIAH of the New Testament.

Finally, we can observe in Matthew’s early writings that Christ is the beginning and end. He is the Alpha and Omega. Christ is the one who is, and who was, and who is to come. He covers every part of Israel’s life…from their past, to the very present and the future. “This is” the Christ in you and me too if we believe.

My friend, “This is” very convicting to me. Not just in how Matthew writes, tells and lives out the Messiah’s story, but rather in how I write, tell and live His story too. I am fortunate to have a precious friend to share with me that our lives and testimony should be 25% about “us” and 75% about “Jesus.” Yet, I think Matthew’s percentages are more condensed and narrow. Mine should be too. "This is" presently how we honor him as Messiah.

Traci M. However, as we continue to read the book of Matthew, we find additional writings of Christ except from a fulfilled Jewish perspective and writer.

It's amazing how explicit Matthew pens his writings. First, Christ is the only person ever born into this world whose ancestry was prewritten centuries before He was born. Second, Matthew continues with that same passion in scripting "His Story" in order to show that He meets the prerequisite set by the Old Testament for "who" the Messiah must be.

As he begins describing His family tree he portrays His ancestry simply by the name, JESUS CHRIST, which was literally interpreted as "Messiah" or "The Anointed One."

Recently, I read in the Jewish NT Commentary that the significance of being known as "The Anointed One" is that both kings and cohanim (priests) were invested with their authority in a ceremony of anointing with olive oil. Thus, inherent in the concept of "Messiah" is the idea of being given God’s priestly and kingly authority. (This is directly quoted by the commentator - David H. Stern.)

That is astonishing because as you read through the first 17 verses you see how Matthew establishes Him as such. He traces the promised Messiah as the seed of the woman, as the seed of Abraham, as the seed of David who would come from the tribe of Judah. First, he traces Him as a shepherd and prophet - like that of his brothers. Second, we see Him as king. Third, he established His priestly office through Shealtiel and Zerubbabel.

I remember learning part of this while studying the book of Haggai. Yet, I was intrigued when I came across the words "Son of." I learned in Judaism that this term is commonly used in three distinctive ways. First, a man is normally identified as the son of his father. Second, it can also mean not the actual son, but a more distant descendant - a relative or ancestor. Third, it can take a broader meaning as to imply "having the characteristics of" which often applies here in Matthew's writing. All of this points to His offices or somehow relates to promises of the covenants.

Talk about identity here! Matthew truly connects the dots of our lives as they are entwined in Christ – our ancestry! And to think that Matthew's motivation through the FAMILY TREE of CHRIST is just that story that keeps unfolding. My friend, this is such a great place to park our bicycles – so to speak. Honestly, there is still so much more to the story...all of which is so inspiring.

Traci M. Last year, we studied the book of Hebrews together. It was awesome! Once we finished, we prayed about the next book for 2010. The Holy Spirit led us to the book of Matthew.

Awe...the book of Matthew. Here is Matthew, a Levi, writing a Jewish book to a Jewish people about a Jewish Messiah - something they hoped and longed for. The Messiah was prophesied, anticipated and awaited by the people from Genesis on. Yet, I love how he sets the stage.

First of all, he stays true to his own Jewishness and simply does what he does best - be himself. Second, he begins to take a piece of life's present puzzle, along with a piece of Israel's past history, adding many future Jewish prophecies and fit them together. How? He did it one piece and chapter at a time.

Matthew was familiar and well-versed with the Tanach (Torah, Writings and Prophets). He begins telling the people how the Old Testament concealed is actually the New Testament revealed. So, he begins with the family tree of Jesus Christ by reintroducing the book of Moses - i.e. Genesis.

In Genesis chapter 1,2 - we learn of creation. In Genesis chapter 3 - we see the fall of man. In Genesis chapter 4 - we have the account and record of the murder of Abel. Then, we arrive to Genesis chapter 5 and we read the words - "This is the generation of Adam." Matthew begins revealing how the Old Testament is a book that deals with the generation of Adam - the first man. From Genesis to Malachi the Old Testament ends with a curse, "Lest I come and smite thee." Yet, Matthew begins a NEW book. In chapter 1, he writes "This is the generation of Christ."

Awe, do you see it? This is a new generation! Then, as we fast forward to the end of Revelation 22 we find the words "There will be no more curse." Matthew is referencing from the book of Moses how each testament and covenant compliments one another and fulfills one another. He is unveiling Christ and how He is made complete. So, here the writer begins Matthew chapter one with the GENESIS of the Messiah - vs. 17 - "There were fourteen generations from Abraham to David, another fourteen from David to the Babylonian exile, and yet another fourteen from the Babylonian exile to Christ."

Friend, as I continued to meditate on this I realized that I almost missed the history lesson of the family tree. This is not simply history in the making as I might nonchalantly read it. Matthew is saying, this is the genealogy regarding HIS STORY.

It is HIS STORY with history's common denominator and letter being "s." The "s" is representative and symbolic of our Savior found right in the middle of life. He is the before and after. It is just as the Word of God says in Revelation 1:8, "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty." Here, just in these first 17 verses...Matthew reveals Christ as the past, the present and certainly He is the future.

How does that relate to you and I today? I think Matthew could be saying that if "Traci" looks for Christ deep enough...going past my nonchalantly...He is and can always be my new beginning. Life and history is about the Savior writing HIS STORY in the before and after of both our lives. He takes our past, present and future - one piece at a time - revealing the larger picture until the canvas is finally revealed.

Traci M. Recently, I learned the tenderest lesson about God and how He views His children...especially me. I would like to share it with you.

Saturday morning, I took Tootsie Minimus outside for her morning routine. As she was walking across the grass she yelped. Immediately, she held her leg up and quickly advanced away from where she was standing. Yellow jackets were swarming. Tootsie stepped in a nest. They attacked leaving her harmed and injured. As soon as I heard her cry and beheld she was hurt I ran swooping her up in my arms. Then, I called her veterinarian. He stated to bring her in as quickly as possible. Keep in mind, Tootsie is still a puppy and weighs 2 lbs. soak and wet. She needed advanced care. She was taken in, thoroughly checked and administered medicine. Later, she was dismissed, sent home and supervised for the next 24 hours. The next day she went back to her normal routine. I admired her courage and sensed her caution. As her master, my eyes are always upon her. She’s so special. She has my heart and my attention.

Two days later, I thought about what happened. Suddenly, God spoke to my heart. He said, "Traci that is how I love you. Each day as you enter your normal routine, the enemy is lurking. Just like Tootsie, you can't always see him. Yet, he is present and waiting to attack. The moment he stings you, I react in the same manner. You see, I am always listening and can recognize and differentiate your cry. I watch and can tell by your behavior when something is wrong. Then, I run swooping you up in my arms and take you to a place of safety. I administer attention and provide healing. I also monitor and supervise with love until the crisis has ended. Then, I watch as you enter life and your daily routine. I admire your courage and am elated as you are aware and more cautious of your environment. As your Master, my eyes are always upon you. Tootsie is so special. I love her too. I love you even more. You also have my heart and my attention.” My friend, what an incredible glimpse and what an amazing picture of how much God loves us and is tender toward us. It is exactly Zechariah's song in Luke 1:67-79.

Finally, I have included a photo of Tootsie in her daddy's hands because this is only a glimpse of how we must view ourselves in HIS. I love the tenderness of that moment!

Traci M. I am in the 13th chapter. It is very interesting. David goes to get the Chest of God. Perhaps, this is a test in leadership?

The first thing I observe is CHANGE! Something new is about to happen in David's life and walk as King. Israel is also involved in this transition. There is movement and God doesn't want us to miss the lesson! This passage is simply just another example of how things must be done God's way.

Second, David invited all of Israel to participate in getting the Ark back to Israel. Keep in mind that the ARK was not in it's proper place in David's early kingship. The Ark of the Covenant was displaced for a span of twenty years. This span involved the time between bringing the Ark there and bringing the hearts of the people back to God, as apparently the people were very disheartened after their defeat and loss during Saul's rule.

Honestly, there are times that the LORD isn't in His proper place in my life either. I suppose it’s mostly because I am selfish or want to take the shortcut. Yet, as we continue walking life's journey I realize how important it is to get HIM back where HE belongs. This often takes time. Once I cooperate, the LORD brings my heart back to Himself and there is joy.

Typically, it involves others walking with us. The Bible states, "How can two walk together unless they are in agreement. The scripture says David invited his men, family, relatives and Israel to get involved. He wanted their participation. He even asked the priest.

Notice the order in which it took place. He reached out to his family and relatives first. My friend, we need the support of our family, relatives, especially our pastor and church. They participate in our story just as Israel participated in this particular chapter of David's life.

The Bible states that everyone was in agreement because it seemed right and they wanted to be in the will of God. That's what we desire too as women. We want to be in HIS will.

Third, when everyone is in agreement...there is unity. There is often singing, exuberant dancing and a parade. Yet, look what happens when things "appear" on the outside to be going great when God sees the heart of those on the inside. Disaster strikes! The singing ceased, dancing stopped and the parade was ended.

Why? God always gets right to the heart of the matter. He knows our past, present and where HE is leading and directing our future. Therefore, HE will interrupt us to make sure we walk the right path.

Everything seemed to be moving right along until they got to the threshing floor and the oxen stumbled. AWE!!! The Threshing Floor! Do you remember the purpose of the threshing floor? It was used to SEPARATE the grain from the chaff.

It involved a two-part process. The grain has to be freshly cut with the stalks spread out on the floor to dry before threshing to avoid mold. The stalks were then broken, walked over, beaten with heavy sticks and tossed up in the air with a winnowing fork. Then, the wind would blow the lighter chaff to one side, while the heavier grain fell into a pile, which was gathered.

This is what is happening to David. It is a pivotal moment at the threshing floor. The good and bad are being separated in his life. God cut him, spread him out among the people, broke him, walked on him, beat him with a heavy stick and tossed his life up in the air with HIS winnowing fork. Why? So, that the wind (a type of the Holy Spirit) could blow the lighter chaff to one side, and allow the grain to remain separate.

This reminds me of the prophecy found in Jeremiah when the LORD told Moab that He was going to turn their wineskins upside down and empty them out because their wine had settled in her dregs while not being poured from one jar to the other.

The good had settled to the bottom. It's similar to drinking a glass of orange juice that hasn't been shaken before pouring. It tastes bitter. The pulp has settled in the bottom of the carton. It lacks sweetness. Here, God is getting what has settled in the bottom of their lives out so that they can taste the good of what He has in store!

He is separating some things before their very eyes. Now, we don't want to miss this either. BEFORE, God allowed the Ark to be put in its proper place where HIS name was invoked (don't miss that) there was a delay...but, not a denial.

God wants us to be in the place which invokes HIS name. However, we have to be living and walking in a right relationship with Him. Before I remind you of what happens next...remember, there were certain rules to carrying the ARK and handling God's treasures. He established the rules, parameters and boundaries for their protection. When those are broken, walked outside or violated, there are grave (literally) consequences.

Consequences come immediately! Why? Because God expects His covenants to be honored and respected. So, we read that the oxen stumbled. Uzzah places his hand on the ark to stabilize it in order to keep it from falling off the cart.

It seemed harmless what he did. Yet, isn't that just like sin? Sin is a progress. I like how one version paraphrases James 1:15 "We have no one to blame but the leering, seducing flare-up of our own lust. Lust gets pregnant, and has a baby: sin! Sin grows up to adulthood, and becomes a real killer." And that is what happened to David and Uzzah.
Uzzah died because of his sin. God put rules and boundaries in our relationships to protect us. First, those rules and boundaries are established with God. Second, they are with others.

Uzzah was fully aware of the consequences in touching the Ark. His decision also affected others. Especially, David! Again, both David and Uzzah knew better. They simply had their own way of doing things instead of following His rules. Failure resulted in immediate consequences.

Here is what the passage says, "God erupted in anger against Uzzah and killed him because he grabbed the Chest. He died on the spot—in the presence of God." David lost his temper and grew angry because God exploded against Uzzah.

David wasn't thinking of God...his focus was on Uzzah and also himself. So, God had to change his focus and perspective. Look at the comment he made, "How can I possibly continue this parade with the Chest of God?" He wasn't worried about the offense as much as continuing the parade.

Does that sound familiar? I can't tell you how many times I have departed from God's Word, moved out on my "better way", then been "displeased" with God because things did not work out as I planned only to find that it wasn't really all that petty to do it God's way! God's way was protecting me! Besides, who was at greatest fault here, Uzzah or David? After all, David placed Uzzah in the predicament. Both men knew. Both men bore the responsibility.

Do you know what God is trying to get us to see? Things MUST be done God's way in our lives instead of the "Traci Alexander" way. If not, God will certainly intervene.

Invention is almost always a part of our story and growth. We have to admit and acknowledge that error can cause others to error too. What is our response? We get angry too just like David!

Good thing that God is patient and will allow a time of healing so we can figure out what to do next. Talk about a maturing time. God re-arranged some things! First, arrangement was in the placement of the Ark.

I wonder if David became a spectator of Obed Edom's house during those three months. Can you imagine his thoughts? He missed the blessing. Perhaps, God allowed this for several reasons.

One reason is because God demanded reverence and respect. He received it in Obed Edom's home. Remember, judgment had taken place and David was terrified. He went from singing and dancing to mourning and planning a funeral. The second reason is because David needed to figure out what to do next with himself and with his relationship with God.

Secondly, there was some things David needed to learn as King. God is such a gentleman in how He teaches us. This lesson was to mature HIM and his life experience transfers knowledge to wisdom.

Finally, this chapter ends with a delay...but, NOT a denial. Indeed, there is an interval of time that occurs. So, what happens next? We read Chapter 14! It states that David began to build.

My heart leaps in that. The Word states that God confirms some things in David's life and his kingdom. He also blesses his home and his family flourishes. His prayer life increases. His experiences increased His faith. His kingdom expands. Yet, it didn't come without the enemy's attack and constant conflict.

I urge you to go read the next few chapters. We find David builds a new home and with it comes the passion to get God's Ark back to Jerusalem. This time, David is fully aware and sensitive to God’s commands. He also performs them to the letter. I believe that His thoughts become God's thoughts. David's ways become like God's ways.

Honestly, that is what He's after in all of us. Here is proof! The Bible says, "After David built houses for himself in the City of David, he cleared a place for the Chest and pitched a tent for it. Then David gave orders: "No one carries the Chest of God except the Levites; God designated them and them only to carry the Chest of God and be available full time for service in the work of worship." Samuel said it best...to obey is better than sacrifice. There certainly is a reward for doing things God's way.

Traci M. I am still smiling at all the things the LORD accomplished. I do hope that you viewed the report from Judy Mize on our website – http://mylonn.com/HeartsMoving.aspx. If not, please follow this link for viewing. She really says it best!

Some of you may remember the last words that I sent you in a letter. I quoted the following passage from Proverbs 21:30 that says, “Do your best, prepare for the worst – then trust God to bring victory.” I asked for you to notice the comma and the dash. At the time, I was honestly living at the dash and clinging to the word “THEN.” Yet, I am very anxious to report the victory. Well, LADIES…I have lots of “victory” to report!

First of all, I want to report this news step by step so that you can process what the LORD did at this retreat. Plus, I want to give HIM every ounce of credit due HIM. Thursday, we arrived on campus. My car had problems early on. We had to end up having it towed early in the week. This happened before we even departed for Callaway. Yet, we got it repaired just in time. It drove beautifully. Then, as we parked to unload the Jeep on campus…it completely stopped. Not even a budge! So, Stephen and Henry Mack took a hammer and tapped on the starter. All of a sudden, it started right up! Problem solved. Yet, nerve wrecking because we had previously spent over $400 in repairs on that particular Monday. Satan attempted delaying us from arriving to our destination. Yet, again…we experienced God’s Faithfulness arriving and departing. Thank goodness it happened early on and not as we were traveling! We could worry about the starter once home.

Secondly, Teddy was very sick. We think he either got into something outside or either he had some type of virus. We felt terribly sorry for him. He had vomiting and diarrhea for two days before we left. So, this became another challenge in departing. We prayed. Then, I called Callaway Gardens to inquire of their pet policy. They allow pets at their facilities as long as they are 20 lbs and under. Teddy Maximus qualified. So, we wrapped him up and took him with us so we could monitor him. Again, we experienced God’s Faithfulness in the matter. You know what that Teddy is to me!

Next, we walked through the main gardens and waited in the patio area enjoying the beauty and evidence of the season. SPRING was definitely in the air. All I could think of was Ecclesiastes 3:1 “To everything there is a season.” This was the season we had been anticipating and hoping for. The moment had arrived and I was sick, sick, sick! Again, we prayed. God was completely faithful. Ladies and gentlemen had been praying ahead of time for my physical condition. So, I felt just fine and had even regained my voice and strength.

Next, we arrived to our room. We were appearing a little fatigued from the day. It had been quite the week. Suddenly, I opened the door to our room and there was the most beautiful flower arrangement awaiting us. When I opened the card it read, “We love you! – Special Friends.” What a complete surprise and blessing! My two most faithful friends and warriors were preparing the way ahead of me. I felt like God was smiling and saying, “SURPRISE!” Here is the way…walk in it.

Later, we were relaxing and preparing for bed when it hit me that we had not prepared the SPEAKER’S bags or VOLUNTEER gifts for their rooms. We were told to have them ready before 10:00 am so that the bellman could pick them up for delivery the following morning. So, at midnight Stephen and I were up wrapping gifts. They turned out lovely. We had 5 speakers bags, 2 individual gifts for corporate at Callaway and 20 volunteer gifts. I don’t think we had seen so much tissue and ribbon. Yet, what fun! Again, God was faithful to remind us before the next morning! I love when HE prods us.

Friday morning arrived! We received several messages that a couple of our volunteers were not going to be able to make it after all. We were going to be short in assisting our speakers and somewhat lacking with greeters. It seemed as though we were being hit on every side. Satan was doing everything to distract us. So, we prayed. AND???? Once we arrived to our work stations on Friday morning one of our volunteers brought three extra friends who made up for the shortage. Again, what a surprise to watch God in action! He already knew and showed Himself faithful!!!!

That morning, we were praying over the entire facility. Our team of volunteers began decorating the ballroom. They were preparing the individual retreat gift bags for each attendee. We were arranging the round tables with flowers and beautiful décor. One of our volunteers (Sandra) had even made a beautiful curtain to go across the stage to help with lighting and staging for an intimate setting. It turned out to be very inviting and lovely. I couldn’t have been more pleased. I am certain that it pleased the LORD. He saw their hearts!!!

So, as you can read…everything was on course. My friend, I can’t begin to tell you how excited we were. We were standing at the door waiting for our speaker and attendee’s arrival. Our volunteers and vendors were in place and we were anxious to see what was in store.

Friday night’s service began with Babbie Mason leading us in praise and worship. It was divine! Then, Cindi Wood brought the opening message. She opened with an incredible story about vows - A E I O U. Then, the message grew in the WORD. Mrs. Wood is a sweet, bubbling, young lady, who is full of Christ.

Satan was so present that night. He wasn't stopping at nothing! There was such a spirit of heaviness that whole evening. It baffled me! Cindi poured her heart out to these ladies. Yet, we sense that her message was simply preparing the way for what was ahead. Friday night most of these ladies are exhausted from traveling, working and simply just getting there. So, we purposefully plan to make Friday the lighter evening. Yet, I went back to the room amazed. So, all we knew to do was pray against the work of the enemy. AND? Saturday AM we were ready to go!

Dee Brestin (who is from Kansas City) opened up with a powerful message from the book of Solomon. It seemed like all of our hearts came prepared. Perhaps, because so many new attendees they didn’t know what to expect or how to respond to an event like this. However let's just say our hair came down!

Later, we broke out into workshops. We have three segments of workshops throughout the day. The first workshop began at 10:30 am. There were various topics to choose from: The Friendships of Women, Splashing Living Water and The Frazzled Female. These women were screaming! Our second workshop began at 1:00 pm. There were other topics to choose from: The Three Legged Stool of marriage, Seven Ups For Living In An Upside Down World and The God of All Comfort. Our third workshop began at 2:30 pm. The ladies were able to choose from three different topics, which included: And God Sent Us A Helper, Keep Courting In Your Marriage and Too Blessed For This Mess. What a blessing!!!

My friend, there was a different kind of spirit that afternoon. It seemed to be over the entire Garden. It was evident in corporate, the Callaway staff, our vendors, speakers, volunteers, attendees, and just those who were peaking in to see for themselves what we were doing. All I could do is SMILE!

After the last workshop, we provide the ladies free time to go shopping in Pine Mountain, experience the Gardens, enjoy the spa and all other recreations. The trails at Callaway are great! Then, we assembled back around 7:30 pm.

Saturday evening, Jan Silvious began the evening with a message about the woman from Epharim who had courage and wisdom to do the impossible for God and His people. The passage is found in II Samuel 20:21-23. Then, she urged women to combine the courage and wisdom God has given us to do something impossible for God and His people. It was very inspiring. Plus, I had to do that very thing at this retreat.

Afterwards, I asked Jan and Babbie to be seated on stage where we had prepared to wash their feet. My friend and mentor, Carrie Gore, assisted in the service. It was something precious and something never done before. I was completely honored and humbled. Jan and Babbie spirit shown complete humility in what was taking place. Plus, this seemed to simply carry on the thought of that message.

My friend, the LORD had already prepared me back in October to serve them in this manner. He said, “Traci, if you want these women to understand our vision of this ministry…you must be the very first to minister and serve. You go and wash their feet in my name.” Enough said!

Afterwards, Babbie Mason began singing and there was reading of the Word. Several of us participated. Then, there were women who wrote out their testimonies on cardboards. The front explained their life before Christ. The back was proof and evidence of their life afterwards abiding in Christ. Talk about special! One lady stated she was addicted to drugs, sex and the world. Afterwards it read, “Addicted to Jesus.”

I am telling you! It made me jump up out of my seat. I was whooping and hollering! I was shouting AMEN! Then, I was crying!!!! I was completely beside myself. Especially when one pastor’s wife held a cardboard testimony that read “ADULTRESS” and flipped it over reading “FORGIVEN.” That did it for me! I was on my knees. Then, jumping up and down.

Women were rushing to the altar. Jan invited those who wanted to be anointed in oil to come forward. Sweet friend, they were standing down a long aisle – woman after woman. Jan looked at me. She whispered, “Traci, my greatest prayer was that the LORD would allow you to experience a blessing.” Well, He did! Even now, I am crying as I write this.

Friend, that was the pivotal moment! There were over 40 ladies who made public and various decisions for Christ. Even one lady for salvation! Those are just the ones that we know of. I am telling you…I couldn’t have been more excited.

Finally, we dismissed. I had to say the benediction. I couldn’t. I just said, “I’m a mess! I can’t pray. Let’s just say AMEN!” Then, I walked off the platform weeping at what the LORD HAD DONE again. So, were others.

Well, I didn’t think I was going to be able to sleep. Yet, when my head hit my pillow…I was gone! That had to be what David and Paul experienced. They slept. I did as well. It was a precious gift from God.

Sunday morning arrived! Esther Burroughs gave a lovely message on our heritage and what we leave behind. She spoke from the book of Psalms. She even tied it in with our theme, “THERE IS A TIME.” How appropriate to leave this retreat on that thought. This was certainly part of our ministry heritage!

Earlier, several women asked to give their testimonies. So, we allowed this. One lady even purchased a gift to give to another lady there who had shined like a diamond in her walk. On Friday evening, she stood in front of everyone and stated how she was struggling with her daughter’s murder. You never know whom God will bring to your retreat. Talk about brokenness. Talk about God connecting women and teaching them to minister to one another. We hit the bull’s-eye of God’s heart here!

Then, Carrie Gore got up and stated that the LORD woke her up early in the morning. She stated, “Traci has no idea what I am about to say or do. Yet, it’s time for us to have a Jesus come to meeting moment.” Then, she made a plea for women to partner with our ministry. She explained how we operated by faith alone. Afterwards, she felt led to take up an offering. I cried because I had no idea what God was doing.

As the women were giving and making pledges to partner with the ministry…a woman came and stood beside me. She said, “I need to speak with you.” I really couldn’t hear that well because of the music. She said, “Traci, God has been dealing with me. I finally know what I am suppose to do. I am making a challenge grant to “match the amount of money that these ladies have given today. Please let me know the total.” My knees buckled. She wrote it down on a piece of paper, along with her name, address and telephone number. I was completely speechless and made the announcement to the ladies. We were praising the LORD!

Okay - let’s go backwards. We were lacking in meeting our budget for this retreat. Yet, the ladies gave an offering of over $2,000.00. My friend, can I testify how FAITHFUL God has been to us? I needed a bottle to collect those tears!

Finally, we are coming to a close of the retreat. I asked Stephen to come forward. I needed to thank him for being a husband, friend and partner in this ministry. I explained how he blessed me back in October and how a lot of this weekend was his fault. I told the ladies that once the 2008 Fall retreat had ended – I remember asking him this question: “Stephen, what do you think the LORD wants me to learn these next six months and year?” He replied, “Oh, that’s easy! He wants you to learn HIS FAITHFULNESS!” I explained how I was thrilled and was so happy he didn’t say that God wanted me to learn patience. Yet, I explained the challenges and trails that accompanies FAITHFULNESS and I’ve learned it is similar to asking HIM for patience.

Next, I told the ladies about Stephen’s romantic side. Sometimes, Stephen will grab my hand and place it inside of his. Then, he will look at me and smile. I know what is coming. He wants to skip! It doesn’t matter where we are. It could be in the mall, grocery store, doctor’s office, etc. In the past, it would embarrass me. Yet, at that very moment…time stood still. I told him how much I loved him and asked for Babbie to close with a song. I grabbed his hand. I looked at him and smiled. No longer was I embarrassed. I said, “Let’s skip!” So, we kissed and skipped down the aisle. As we were skipping, I felt this urge to go grab Cindi Wood’s hand and ask her to skip with me. Secretly, she was praying that I would do so. So, we skipped around the ballroom. Then, we went and grabbed Jan’s hand. She replied, “I don’t know how to skip!” So, Dee Brestin grabbed her other hand and we went skipping too. All of a sudden, we heard women behind us giggling and praising the LORD. They were right on our heels – SKIPPING too!

There was singing, dancing, shouting, weeping and oh, so much joy! Yet, I want to share something more in depth. I want to show you how God brought this full circle from the beginning. As I created our website – I wrote a story about ALICE IN WONDERLAND. Here is what I wrote so that you will understand and remember.

It is funny how the silly tales by Lewis Carroll have become world famous, while the serious works of Reverend Dodgson are almost unknown! When the Reverend wasn’t making up nonsense tales for little girls, he spent his time, as a college professor writing and developing serious books on mathematics while Lewis Carroll became his pen name.

When I was a little girl, I was delighted by Lewis Carroll's enchanted fantasy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. However, it wasn't until my thirties that I could appreciate His writings. In his writings, Alice asked, "Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?" "That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the cat. "I don't much care where-" said Alice. "Then it doesn't matter which way you go," -so long as I get somewhere," Alice added as an explanation.

I've found myself asking the same question, "Which way I ought to go from here" often to settle with "so long as I get somewhere." Is this just a mere fable? Or, does it often become a part of life's story?

As women we find ourselves Balancing Life’s Demands with the scales tilted in the direction of being a daughter, wife, mother, sister, colleague, associate, friend, neighbor or care-giver. Similar to Reverend Dodgson, our identity transforms us into individuals more famous or popular than who God created us to be. Sadly, we leave behind the same kind of unknown legacy with few ever knowing our true identity.

I believe God created us to be a generation of godly women who impact the world. We CAN Balance Life’s Demands while at the same time leave behind a godly legacy. This is my heart’s cry and reason for creating this ministry.

Ladies, do you see how this all fits together? Leaving the legacy? God putting the appropriate people in our lives to help do that very thing. And??? This blew my mind…my friend stated that at the end of the fable…Alice leaves skipping. Who knew? Isn’t that amazing how God works ALL things together? We were skipping too.

Honestly, I am learning the word “Fathom” more and more. Yet, I yearn to see the ending of our FALL 2009 conference. Matter of fact, when I came home I was thanking God for all that was done. He said, “Oh, Traci! You just understood my beginning towards the word “fathom”…you haven’t reached the end. We still have another conference to go!” I jumped up and down.

As always, I have a point for you in this. I believe God is bringing things full circle for you too. He’s simply connecting the dots. He’s shifting, subtracting, adding and mulitply…even dividing things in our lives. He’s bringing people around in our lives that we probably never dreamed would happen. He’s showing us our strengths and weaknesses. He is bonding our relationships. Why? Because THERE IS A TIME for each one of us…including you too. HE has a BIG plan in all of this. It’s not just for naught or to sit idle. This time in your life is a season. The bible says He has a purpose for everything and a season for every activity under heaven.

God says that he has seen the burden laid upon men. He also states that he has made everything beautiful in its time. He has already set eternity in your heart…yet, I am praying you experience that last phrase too! My friend you cannot fathom what God has in store from beginning to end. Nor can I for that matter!!!

I love each of you and this is HIS victory. Yet, I love how He let’s us get in on it. May GOD receive all the glory, praise and honor for the work HE accomplished at this retreat. Amen?! Thank you so much for being a huge part of our ministry and journey. You are such a strength to me.

Traci M. A few days ago, I was praying and simply sitting still in order for the Holy Spirit to speak. My professor once said, "We must have equal time."

Suddenly, my girlfriend's granddaughter called approximately around 7:00 am. I thought "something must be wrong because she NEVER calls me this early." So, I returned her call.

She stated it was Brooklyn - who is 4 years old. We sat, talked and later began to pray. Meantime, as we were talking I became so cold because I was still lounging around in my pajamas.

The conversation ended. I went back to bed to get warm. I began praying silently again. I begin asking the Lord, "What is it exactly that I am supposed to be learning?" Instantly, the Holy Spirit used that experience to begin teaching me.

Here is the lesson: When I was sitting talking to my friend my body became chilled. I couldn't concentrate on the conversation at times because I was thinking of how to get warm.

I began multi-tasking. Although, I was listening to the conversation -I also began seeking remedies. For example... turn on the heat...grab a blanket...etc. Once I got into the bed and underneath the covers I became warm again. My thoughts were centered on praying. There were no distractions. I was fully concentrated.

The Holy Spirit whispered to me, "Traci, that is the lesson God is wanting you to learn. When you remove yourself from OUR covering...YOU easily become distracted.

You come up with your own remedy of how to 'fix' the situation. Even when we try to talk to you -you are so sidetracked that you only hear every other word. Oh, you are still there but, not wholeheartedly.

Then, when you realize the condition you are in or what has happened you immediately put back on the covering. You are still. You listen intensely. You allow US to work -instead of YOU.

We don't need you to find the remedy. We are the remedy. We aren't nearly as concerned about your comfort in the situation as we are your FAITH." Wow, what's important - Comfort or Faith?

Traci M. Sometimes, he can be quite the teacher. Teddy is small and weighs approximately 6-7 lbs. soak and wet. He is such a joy.

Lately, I have learned a valuable lesson from him. I call it Teddy's lesson about FAITH. At night, I like to read in the bed. It's quiet and very relaxing. Yet, once he realizes that I am in bed...he rounds the corner, takes a leap and jumps high up on the bed - all by himself. He wants to join me. It is though he is saying, "Look, I am a big boy!"

That's amazing because he doesn't even flinch at the height of our sleigh bed. He doesn't let anything intimidate him nor does he wait for an invitation. He is quite confident that it is alright. He just wants to be in my presence.

At other times, Teddy comes to the side of my bed with this pitiful, long face. Immediately, he begins scratching the covers with his little paw. This lets me know that this time...he would like to be picked up and invited.

I state, "Teddy, you can do it...just jump!" I encourage him. I pat the bed. UNTIL...finally, I pick him up. I suppose he just wants me to reach down, hold him, and let him know its ok.

Later, I think to myself isn't that strange how some days he is so confident and other moments he lacks confidence and becomes so easily intimated??? Yet, I absolutely love that he simply wants to be with me and I never mind.

Honestly, I am a lot like Teddy. Here is proof. As I pondered this...Jesus said, "Traci, you are a lot like this too. Some days, you speak to the mountain and shout with a loud voice...BE THOU REMOVED!

Other times, you tend to beg, plead and cry for me to remove it. No matter how many times I tell you that YOU TOO can do it...I have to pick you up...hold you and let you know it is ok!"

The great thing about this lesson is that God never minds either. He simply encourages me and reminds me that HIS Word states that it only takes a tiny mustard seed of faith. My friend, they say a dog is a lot like his MASTER. The great thing is that both of us just want to be with our owners!!!!

Traci M. Recently, I have been reading and studying a particular passage in II Kings 6:1-7. It is a familiar story. Yet, very convicting when you ask yourself the question, “What is in the bottom of life’s river that the Lord needs to float up in my life?” Honestly, it could be a number of things as we Balance Life’s Demands. Some of us may be dealing with a health issue, sickness, diet, or proper fitness. Perhaps, we are having problems in our relationships, marriages, or with our children. What about our joy, happiness or growth? Perhaps, struggling to make that eternal or spiritual decision? Only God can help us pinpoint what’s at the bottom. Let’s just label it “X” for now. God can define what “X” is for you.

In this particular passage, there was an “ax” at the bottom of this river. You must read it. Here these men were strategically positioned right where they needed to be. They were Rigorous Students who were transitioning to becoming Righteous Servants based upon the relationship established between their mentor (Elisha) and those mentored (Sons of the prophets). Elisha was setting an example in order for his students to be an example. He began making an investment. After all, someone (Elijah) prior had made an investment in him. They were simply men mentoring other men. That reminds me of Jesus and his disciples. Old Testament revealed!

Next, I discover that reality sets in. These men realize that they must expand their ministry. However, in order to expand - they too must personally invest. So, they make a choice. A good one at that! They sense the urgency to involve others. Jesus did the same thing. He called his disciples to follow him and they did! Then, they rally round to change their homes, communities, villages and eventually the world! The disciples were like the sons of the prophets. They wanted to participate in the building of God’s kingdom. AND? They did. They went out from Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the outer parts of this world.

These men took personal responsibility. Instead of arguing who would go and work or simply allow Elisha to go alone…they declared, “Let us go and let us make.” They took personal pride and initiative. Now, those words "Let us Make" sounds familiar to what happened in Eden. Could it have been the difference between asking, “Lord, bless us to do this work!” or rather “Lord, allow us to be a part of what you are blessing!” Stephen taught me that lesson. I’m so glad.

My friend, it never fails that when you become busy doing something for the LORD…the enemy begins to wreak havoc. Something goes wrong. Now, let’s remember three things. First, they are right where they need to be. The Lord has strategically placed them. Second, reality hits and they catch the vision. Finally, these men decide they want in on it and become a part of the success. That’s what the disciples did too! (However, not without private challenges and setbacks.)

Notice as you read the passage it states “one man” was affected. Interesting isn’t it? All of them were working! Could it be the very one that asked Elisha to go? Was he tested? There was certainly a problem. His ax handle was detached and it prevented him from building. Then, he is so perplexed that he loses focus and begins to cry. He’s crying that his ax head is lost. So, he begins to offer a plea to Elijah exclaiming how it was borrowed and makes a personal commitment to do something about it! You know, that is what happens when we become detached while building. Progress stops. We lose our focus. We begin to cry. We begin concentrating on what has been left in our hand and what now remains at the bottom of our river. Then, we either chose to make a personal commitment to do something about it or walk away and let it remain.

I’m guilty! I get sidetracked. I forget that I am representative of the wooden handle that has been detached from the strong iron. Quickly, I lose strength and power. The question is - do I want it back bad enough or do I simply allow it to remain in the river? This man certainly had a plan and he was committed to it. So, he asked for help. This ax had value - not only for himself, but also to the owner.

Honestly, I think that is how Jesus seen his disciples. At times, they too were disconnected. Yet, he looked past their humanity and valued their worth. Now, I didn't say He looked passed our sins. No, Jesus died for those so that He could reconcile our matters too. He understood how important these twelve ordinary men were to the owner (God the Father).

Well, thank goodness the story doesn’t end there! Next, we behold the redemption of that which was lost at the bottom of the river. It didn’t come without a personal confrontation though. Elisha asked him where it went and with confrontation comes confession. He showed him the place. Now, he wasn’t angry because it was lost. No, this prophet helped him find it. I love that about God. He knows our condition and confronts us head on asking us the same hard question. Where did you lose it? Show me the place. Talk about a concise plan though! This man was getting ready to witness the power of God in his life. Although, this situation was completely out of his control - it wasn’t out of God’s. God was going to complete that work in which He had already begun. He had the exact same plan and passion with his disciples too. Us too!

Don’t quit on me now…it’s getting better. This man’s participation was critical. He had to reach out, place his hands upon it and grab it out of the river. He’s now identified with this ax and the problem has been reconciled. That which was at the bottom of the river is on top and put to use! He didn’t just walk off and leave it there. No, I imagine he began chopping trees more effectively and efficiently. I love that it says..."HE TOOK HOLD OF IT." It didn't take hold of him.

That’s not the best part of the story though. It was how the object was retrieved. You know, God is always concerned with the smallest details. Elisha used a stick to save and retrieve that that was lost. Old Testament revealed! Christ used the cross to rescue that that was lost and detached from the Master's hand. And isn’t it great what happens when the stick hits the water, which is symbolic of the Holy Spirit? Once the connection is made - the ax ascends! He was personally involved in the process. After all, he was responsible for the ax.

What an incredible lesson! A miracle has taken place. The glory of God is revealed. This son of a prophet has transformed from a student with a simple head knowledge of God into a servant with a heart knowledge and deep experience of God. Again, this was based upon the relationship established between his mentor! So, I end with this question? What’s at the bottom of your river that God can transform you from being just a student to an exceptional servant? Do you know Him? Or if you already do...do you long to simply know Him better?

Xxooxx

Traci

Traci M. I'm reading it over and over again. Today's message was one of hope in such a hopeless and desperate situation regarding Jairus' daughter.

The crowd had thrown in the towel. Many said..."She's dead." Others stated, "Why bother?" Some even laughed. That's typically what the world and non-believers say and do. Sometimes, it is what Christians say too. Yet, Jesus told the mother and father...don't listen to them...but, rather...TRUST ME.

I can only imagine how difficult that was to do. Now, I must say that I cracked up as I read further in one translation it says that they where bringing in the casseroles. Must have been Baptists!

They were already grieving over the loss. Today, we would be discussing and ordering flowers as well. They were telling JESUS...He didn't know what He was talking about. Even as believers...we doubt. I know that I do.

Yet, Jesus sent them out. Then, He took the mother and father and his "closest companions" and entered the child's room. I could only wonder what those on the outside were thinking about what was taking place on the inside.

Isn't that the real question? Jesus said, "Little girl...get up!" She did and that's when I saw how something so hopeless, so desperate and that with very little life in it turn into JOY. That's what was taking place inside.

How do I get that conclusion? Because the passage talks about how they were ALL beside themselves with joy. Well, that's not all. Jesus then gave them strict orders not to talk about what took place. Then, He told them...give her something to eat. Interesting! She needed that nourishment afterwards.

I wondered several things about that passage. First, why did Jesus only allow her mother and father or His close companions inside the room? Why did He give strict orders not to tell anyone what had just took place? That's when it hit me!

Those were his inner circle friends who ministered along beside him. He wanted to involve them, intensify their faith and answer that plea in which Jairus had to come to Jesus with. He longed to provide them with a miracle in which they needed. Remember, she was only sick...not dead. Yet, to most of us...we give up on the sick and let them die. Simply move on after the loss.

The second part that is intriguing to me? Jesus was already famous. Most were familiar or knew who HE was...but, few really knew HIM...much less experience HIM in this manner or way. Big difference there! It goes from a familiarity and fame of who Christ is to a personal relationship in and with HIM.

Finally, I remember the words of Dr. Robert Smith from Beeson Divinity University. He said, "Traci...the disciples were always sending the people away from Jesus. We don't simply send people away as much as we move away." I've never forgot his words.

I'm here to say...embrace HIM...in spite of our circumstance. Let's see HIM work a miracle in all of our lives too. I'm really excited over this passage. This story reminds me that He can turn our HOPELESSNESS into sheer joy. What a passage! What a Savior! So, what are you waiting on? Little girl, get up!

Traci M. I've thought about that question since we celebrated Passover at my girlfriend's house.

Can you imagine it? We've eaten in haste...fled the land...and are now located somewhere in the Wilderness with the anticipation of getting to the PROMISELAND!

That is such an illustration of my life and passion at Mylonn Ministries during this very moment. We are on the move! I like to think that Callaway Gardens is somewhat a picture of the PROMISELAND for us!

Oh...but what about the journey in between? Well, I'm glad you are thinking about it now. Exodus is such a great story and book! However, have you read the book of Numbers lately? Well, I'm there and talk about a journey!

Last night, I sat down reading the first four chapters. I've read it lots of times, but last night the words were jumping off the pages. It begins by stating that it was the first day of the second month in the second year.

Immediately, I crack up! Talk about EVENT PLANNING! Moses even marks the calendar. Then, he begins by taking a census. He is numbering the congregation, writing down the names of men, registering the companies, establishing order and issuing specific tasks. He has established Dan at the North, Judah marching out front toward the East, Ephraim at the west and finally Reuben at the South.

Hey, that sounds like our registration!!! Right now, we've got women coming in from TX, AL, MS, LA, TN, NC, SC and GA. Yet, the story doesn't end with chapter four. There are a lot of responsibilities and things that take place in between.

Everyone helps in sharing the load. Just take a look at what Gershon, Kohath and Merari get to do. Besides, did you know that Moses used COLOR CODING? He did! I was amazed. He used solid blue and scarlet for specific jobs and tasks. Read it for yourself in chapter four.

Finally, my passage last night ended with 'AND THAT'S THE STORY OF THEIR NUMBERING.' I love it! Don't you just love how that statement invites you to keep reading? If that's the story of their numbering...what's next?

In closing, you are probably asking yourself a lot of questions. For example: WHY in this world is she writing me this? Earlier, I mentioned that there were a lot of stages throughout the journey.

Everyone has something to do in planning this event for us to arrive at Callaway Gardens on October 10-12, 2008. That's our calendar date. However, there are preparations throughout the journey. Yet, everyone can help share in this load.

How? One is through prayer. WE NEED LOTS OF PRAYER. 1. Pray for our Speakers.2. Pray for our Staff at Callaway.3. Pray for our Volunteers.4. Pray for our Vendors.5. Pray for our Group Leaders.6. Pray for our Individual WOMEN!7. Pray for our Registrations and a FULL Retreat.8. Pray for our Administration.9. Pray for ME.

I love you all so much. I can hardly wait to read the rest of Numbers. Yet, I also can't wait for the next generation of women to read what God has done, is doing and going to do in and through us at Mylonn Ministries. We are women ministering to women. I need you!

Traci M. What's our place?

Yes, I do believe that the role of a woman is distinct. God did that. Why? Because the seed (Messiah) came from the woman (Eve) to bruise Satan's head. The woman is used throughout the entire Bible to point us to Christ. Then, the seed of Abraham through Sarah to inherit the promise. The seed in Isaac. The seed narrowed down through Leah and Rachel and her handmaidens to single out the Messiah coming from the tribe of Judah. Next, of the thousands of families in the tribe of Judah, God made another choice through woman...the Messiah must come from one family line, the family of Jesse. Thus, bringing about the seed of David through Ruth to establish the Kingdom. So, God used women to accomplish His purpose and plan all throughout history. He still does.

Here are more examples: There is Puah and Shuah (Egyptian midwives) who saved the babies in Egypt found in the book of Exodus. Puah and Shuah eventually helped in saving Moses. Moses gave us the LAW. Then, what about Zipporah? Moses would have been slain and buried if she wouldn't have circumcised him. She was used as a helpmate in preserving the COVENANT. There were women who helped in building the tabernacle that spun the goat's hair found in the book of Exodus. 'Women' provided the work of the curtains. There is Rahab...who delivered the two spies. There is the account of Deborah and Jael's military victory found in the book of Judges. There is Hannah who gave her son to God so that her son would prophesy to Israel about the prophet to come. She help to give us history in I & II Samuel. Again, we referenced Ruth the Moabite. I think she impacted Bethlehem and Judah in her day by giving us Jesse and KING David and our Messiah. Then, in the New Testament there is Mary who delivered the seed. What about Elizabeth? She gave us the forerunner who announced the seed! Or Mary and Martha, Priscilla, Aquilla, Lydia, Lois, Phoebe etc. who told about the seed. AND...the many women who followed Jesus witnessing the seed. Remember the compassion Jesus had upon the Woman at the Well? She later became the greatest missionary of Samaria. The world thought of her as a dog though and many wanted to destroy the seed!

Women weren't excluded from service or being used in uniting the kingdom's work. We are a great part of it! Even Saul dragged off the men and women of the church according to Acts 8:3. Women weren't just idle or sitting still. Matter of fact, they were impacting homes and communities too!

We are distinct. We are gifted. We have a significant place. We simply need to make sure our place is in Christ...and light the way in our homes, families, churches and communities.

Use your gifts!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://mylonn.blogspot.com/2008/03/traci-is-role-of-woman-distinct-whats.html' title='Traci, is the role of a woman distinct? His name is "Teddy Maximus" Alexander. I received him as a special 'gift' from Stephen at Christmas. Teddy is a small Yorkie. He weighs approximately 3-4 lbs. and is almost a year old. He has the cutest personality. We are learning so much from one another. However, there is one lesson that supersedes all. It's one of those defining moments.

Several days ago, we were at BSM office. Teddy Maximus loves to assist. He notifies me of all visitors. (Especially, the postman.) Our main door features a drop slot for letters. Our mail carrier drops the mail unless there is a special delivery. On this particular occasion, I was inundated with calls. Suddenly, I noticed that Teddy was missing from his chair. He was very quiet. Therefore, I began to investigate.

I turned the corner. There sat Teddy. He was motionless. His ears were lowered. He had a very sad countenance. We both realized that his name can also spell T-R-O-U-B-L-E. I knew from the moment that I beheld him that something was wrong. I asked, "Teddy Maximus, what have you done?"

I was suspicious. Slowly, I turned the corner. I was amazed. What a smart puppy! Teddy not only assists in gathering the mail, but also in opening it. Our mail was in a hundred pieces. Teddy confirmed each suspicion! I wasn't sure what to do. Do I scold him? Do I swat him with it? (After all, he already knew that he misbehaved.)

Quickly, I began picking up all the shredded mail. After all, he is my responsibility. However, I concluded that he must be disciplined. Discipline hurts. I swatted him with the shredded mail on the nose. I exclaimed, "No! No!" Then, I picked him up and lavished him with kisses. I reassured him that we were fine because both parties are learning. Soon, he climbed up in my lap. He sat with me throughout the remainder of the evening. What love!

Afterwards, I sat down. The Lord spoke to my heart. He said, "Traci, you do that! You like to assist in matters that I do not need help with. You have good intentions. Yet, when you put your hands into matters that belong to me...your name spells out T-R-O-U-B-L-E. I tend to deal with those same results. You make a mess. You even shred things that I've worked diligently on delivering. Quickly, you realize what you've done. You sit still. Often, you too become motionless. Your countenance changes. At times, you even lose 'your' joy. You do not know what to do. Then, I have to pick up the pieces.

He reminded me that I was like Teddy. He continued with these remarks, "You are my responsibility. Discipline hurts! No, means no!" Then, he did the same thing. He reassured me of His love and the necessity of learning this lesson.

In closing, God is gracious. He is also forgiving and patient. It is true. Teddy and I are very similar in our behavior. Alexander. She is also known as "Syda". She is 7 years old and my beautiful daughter. She has her daddy's eyes.

One night, we were having a "girl's sleepover" with no boys allowed. (Including dad!) We were snuggling and talking. During the night... she said, "Mom, last night I went over to God's house". I was stunned. I also wanted to know more! So, I inquired. I said, "Syda, what did you guys do?" She said, "We watered the flowers, let it rain on the lawn and went swimming in His pool." I said, "Wow!" She replied, "Yes, He has a REALLY big pool." She added, "Then, we just talked." Well, talk about curiosity killing the cat! I asked, "Syda, what did you talk about?" She answered, "You know...just stuff."

Immediately, my heart was pricked. We closed our eyes. We said our prayers. Then, we headed off to God's house together.

Honestly, that is what prayer is. It's about going to God's house and talking to Him about our stuff. It's about spending time together. He could be watering the flowers of our heart or simply letting it rain on the lawn of our spirit. You can even swim in the pool of HIS love! Just dive in. Syda and I have!

Finally, one of my favorite verses in the Bible is found in Psalm 27:7-8. David writes these words, Psalm 27:7-8 "Hear me as I pray, O Lord. Be merciful and answer me! My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.”

Take the trip. We urge you. Just go with us one day over to God's house. You'll have a wonderful time there!
